Your pool water should be clear without any clouding or discolouration, you should be able to see the bottom of the pool. Check the tiles and filter grilles. The pool tiles should be smooth and clean, the filter should be unobstructed and have water visibly coming through it. The pool water shouldn’t smell.

If your pool water is cloudy or green, it is out of balance. This may be caused by many different factors, such as contaminants, debris or high pH. To find out exactly why your water is not clean, bring a sample to R’n’R Pool Shop for testing.

Ideally, you should test your pool water at least once a week. We also recommend a professional analysis at least once a month.

Regular water testing is the only way to ensure your pool water is safe to swim in. Contaminated water can result in skin and eye infections. Clean water also extends the life of your equipment, saving you money for costly repairs or replacements of filters and pumps.

Chlorine smell does not mean you have too much chlorine in your pool, on the contrary, it means that your pool water contains high levels of chloramines. Chloramines form when the chlorine in your pool mixes with contaminants and can cause red itchy eyes. R’n’R Pool Store recommend bringing a sample in to the shop for testing.

‘Shocking’ the pool, or a ‘shock treatment’ is an intensive chemical treatment that is designed to clean your pool water in case of contamination.

Before shocking your pool, have it professionally tested.

Yes, all chemical treatments, including shocking, are perfectly safe for everyone, as long the pool chemical levels are in balance and within recommended ranges. Call R’n’R Pool Shop to measure the levels of chemicals to ascertain if the pool is safe to use.

This varies depending on the type of treatment. As an example, shocking requires one full water exchange through the filter before you swim in it again. Our technicians will tell you exactly how long to wait after we treat your pool water.
